Are You For Or Against YHWH? (Parashat Balak)

Shabbat Shalom Everyone,

By studying what Bil’am (Balaam) did when he was asked to curse Israel and how he was able to get Israel to stumble against YHWH we are able to understand the expectation that YHWH has for His People. By doing anything that is contrary to YHWH is something that we need to avoid. Watch and learn in order to walk in the righteous path of YHWH. WE cannot serve two masters, YHWH and Mammon. So which are you for? YHWH or Mammon?

YHWH will kneel before you presenting gifts and will guard you with a hedge of protection,
YHWH will illuminate the wholeness of his being toward you bringing order and he will beautify you,
YHWH will lift up his wholeness of being and look upon you and he will set in place all you need to be whole and complete (Numbers 6:24-26)

Shalom,

Dirk

  1. Shalom Dirk,

Something to add that I read in a Book, the Kingdoms of Shihon and Og, were new kingdoms, therefore a weak link in the more established kingdoms around the promised land, such as Moab and Ammon. Making more sense why they (the childern of Israel) went around avoiding confrontation against Moab and Ammon and the Canaanites because they were strong and had chariots, which was much like a battle tank at that time. Attacking the weaker links, and later in the story when they were in the promised land they fought in the hills and mountains where the terrain favored light troops, and where chariots could not function due to the rough terrain and steep grades. Biding their time until they got stronger before they descended on the plains. It wasn’t until David and Solomon time that the Israelite obtained chariots.

Love your video! I never realized that Bili am’s home was 400 miles away! 20 days 1 way would have taken around 2 months for Bili am to finally show up at the king of Moab! Because I remember that at first he said no, but went the second time they came to him. No wonder Barak was mad when Bili am would not curse the Hebrews for him. 2 months of waiting and all he gets is a blessing for his enemies and a curse for him…

    Joseph
